The silver coins can be dated to various times, recognizable by the minting by different rulers. The origin of the coins can be estimated to the late Sassanid Empire. Due to the different crowns that the rulers wear, the coins can be easily assigned to the respective ruler. Two of those rulers are Yazdegerd III, the last king of the Sassanids, and Chosrau II, the last successful king of the Sassanid Empire.
Chosrau II: Ruler in his Prime
Chosrau II is considered by many historians to be the last important great king of the Sassanid Empire, as after his death a chaotic period began, with many rulers ruling briefly and acting badly. Chosrau II ruled from 590 to 628 A.D. Under his leadership, the Sassanid Empire fought the so-called Persian War against the Byzantine Empire, which took a turn in 627 and eventually led to the death of Chosrau II. Nevertheless, Chosrau II was one of the most important rulers of the Sassanid Empire and contributed significantly to the expansion of the empire with further war victories.
Yazdegerd III: Ruler of the Fall
Yazdegerd III was the last ruler of the Sassanid Empire. After the chaotic period following the death of his grandfather, Chosrau II, he was the last male member of the royal family to prevail. He ruled from 632 to 651 AD and tried to stabilize the Sassanid Empire during that time. This was very difficult after the wars waged against Eastern Rome, which exhausted the empire both internally and externally. Hopes for the kingdom's resurgence were finally dashed in 636, when the Muslim Arabs invaded the Sassanid Empire. After the death of Yazdegerd III around 651 AD, the Sassanid Empire had ceased to exist.
